25 in 2025 - TV Shows

Last year (2024), I set myself a challenge to watch/play/listen/read 24 Films, Tv Shows, Games, Albums and Books.

These were all new rather than rewatches/replays as much as possible, slightly cheating by having comics and books in the same category.

For this year i have tried to up the stakes to 25. will show my progress below:

So the Tv shows wot i have seen in 25. not the hardest achievement on this challenge, I mainly do sit on my arse and watch stuff on TV. So in no particular order, here are the tv shows I saw for the first time in 2025:

Creature Commandos

Backpacking round eastern europe....

Soilid start to the year. I like James Gunn, I like DC animation. Fun times. Animation is solid, its not too welded to lore. It has one of the signature James Gunn moments where your nose feels itchy and you think there is something in your eye. But its also a good laugh.

i mean, how long have you got?

Al Murray, not quite being the Pub Landlord, but sometimes, and alos sometime being History focused. Also doing daft stuff as well. It was fine, worse things were seen this year

Weeb alarm triggered!

It's pretty much if the worst witch was an anime. It was Ok. probs a bit too long, but YMMV. kids fell off it, I finished watching the series to tick it off the list.

My Adventures with Superman - Season 2

weeb alarm is still going off....

Superman anime now. Yeah it was alright. everyone is a teenager, its suitably daft. Same art style as the criminally underrated she-ra (you need to lay off the plant food - ed).

goonies never say die....

Pretty good, if forgetable TV show in the star wars universe. Didnt overdo the premise, kids were good, Jude law was having fun. No-0ne saw it.

Secret Level

Think revolutionary is a bit of a stretch.....

Video game anthology collection? yeah sign me up, cant be worse than the Halo one can it?
Yeah, it was certainly very odd. Pac man is a horror monster now, cant really remember that many parts of them. Maybe if they get to do another they will crack the formula

Twisted Metal - Season 1

OK, but stay with me here....

Actually turned out to be pretty good. Anthony Mackie is having fun, premise is daft but not utterly silly. Need to catch up with season 2 at some point

Reacher - Season 3

It's reachering time! hang on....

Reacher is back! still pummling fools into puddles of goo. This one felt like a reset, back to basics, more fun times with Reacher, less with the scooby gang. Spin off for Negly at some point, yeah up for more of the reacher universe

Devil May Cry

points for not having the red blue purple backdrop

Yet another Game adaptation from Netflix, yet again pretty solid. Story not much to write home about, But it looks gorgeous. When the action kicks in it goes hard

Liberty!

Back in the 90s when TV still had the VHS fuzziness

Part of my 'learn about countries history i don't know so much about, but i find interesting' series. Was looking for an American Revolution retelling, but couldn't find any. Then after a bit of searching i found this one. Quite a few big names, some before they became big. Decent late 90's TV Documentary series.

Invincible - Season 3

Given a couple of years, he might have figured out all the superheroing

Ongoing tale of Mark trying to square hero, study, work, social life. Gory as anything, still a fun enough watch. Would not be sad if the next series is the last so it doesn't outstay its welcome

Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld

Guess whose back, red blue purple!

Urgh, this show again. Not really tales, more like extended stories of two characters from the clone wars. I'm bored of this art style now, please find a new one Star Wars. And the characters are boring. Not as bad as the tales of the Jedi or of the Empire, so i guess that may be its only win? They may have run out of settings so this might be last, which would be a blessing

Andor - Season 2

even just looking at you reminds me of what we have lost.....

Ah yes, the reason the blog stopped for so long. I was trying to put into words how good this show is, but everything i put on the page just seemed pathetic. One of the best shows of recent times. And that is despite of being star wars, not because! Keep meaning to do a post about of this show, but without it turning into a 5,000 word glazing. Before i get over myself, do yourself a favour and go see this!

Love, death and robots - Season 4

It's anthology time!

While i liked this show, i would be hard pushed to remember which episodes were in this series.

<quick google>

Oh yeah, the Mr Beast one! that one sucked. But the beauty of anthogy shows, one that sucks is soon over and the next one could be better. And there were several that either looked stunning, have interesting premises or a mixutre of the two. There is enough to retain interest, some are also pretty funny.

What if? - Season 3

what if? orange purple and red were banned from posters?

Oh yeah, its Marveling time. The series that promised infinite posibilities, yet felt weirdly limited at the same time. Never quite gelled with the art style, was a fun premise that never really seemed allowed to go crazy with the concept. Suffered from the first half of individual stories then when it was starting to have fun they needed to wrap up the story and link everything back together. Didn't hate it as much as the rest of the internet, but didnt love it either

Dream Productions

the universe you never knew existed

Weird spin off from Inside out, fun enough show around making dreams/movies. Pretty good, disposable stuff.

Light and Magic - Season 1

Imagine a time before fix it in post existed......

Not just the story about Star wars SFX, but ends up covering SFX for the most of cinema since then. Not bad for a bunh of slackers and weirdos working out of a garage. With the changing industry there are some heart breaking tales from old hands who couldn't adapt to the changing landscape. well worth a watch

The Last of us - Season 2

Yeah! happy times ahead!

I was playing the game at the same time as the show, so i kind of knew what was coming. I can see why peeps are upset, but the reaction was mad then, and its mad now.
That being said, the adaptation here is not the greatest. They are trying their best but im thinking that their furious attempts to stick to the game story, just makes it really obvious when they deviate. some time it works (season 1 - Bill and Frank). but not everything is great. Stuggling to see how they can cram in the rest of the game into the next season, and if it takes 2 seasons, ooof, they are gonna stuggle to stretch it out. will have to see which way it goes

The Penguin

All he wanted, was an umbrella

While I was not a huge fan of The Batman, this show was a refreshing look into Gotham and Colin Farrell is playing the absolute nuts off here. This is what Gotham should have been, rather than Bruce wayne the early years, or whatever the hell that show was

The Lord of the rings: The Rings of Power

contender for stupidest name of recent award.....

Watched with a Tolken fan (which i am not the biggest fan) and even they were bored. Felt like a slog towards the end, problem being the three races we are following, the Dwarves are fun but we don't spend any time with them, the humans are tedious and confusing and the elves are snooty and boring. Kicks off in the last 1 and a half episodes but by that point you have probably given up, and wouldn't blame you

Echo

no one can escape the blue red and purple background

What started as a tick box exercise to fill in the marvel gaps, turned out to be a fun little adventure in the marvel sandbox. mercifully free of the snarky dialogue found in most Marvel properties (tis there, but not so much to be abnoxious) and the lead is great. By the time is starting to get tied in knots with lore and previous homework tv and film enties it is already wrapping up. yeah, not too bad there marvel.

Ironheart

Marveling all over the place

A fun enough time, different enough from other iron man entries (what if iron man but magic is a fun enough premise), it was alright. not great but a fun time no the less. Didnt deserve the hate, probably not going to get another series or step up to the films, even the ones with everyone ever in. Bit of a shame, but they need that money for Robert Downey Jr dammit! The Streaming show backlash means it's probably dead in the water

Harley Quinn - Season 5

Stick with me here.....

A show that I initally hated in the first 10 minutes (felt all wrong) glad i stuck with it as it has become a firm favorite. Stupid as all hell but it has a huge amount of heart and having great fun with the premise. Best version of Bane ever (sorry Tom Hardy)

One Piece

again, stick with me here

Of course i haven't seem the animated series, 1,000 episodes and counting, do you think i am insane?!?!? This is crazy as you like, but a lot of fun and looks stunning, if a little silly at times. Managing the feat of converting an anime to live action and making it work, more or less

Eyes of Wakanda

oh yeah, lets go, its Marveling time!

A fun enough idea, Wakanda though the ages Wakanda-ing about purpling all over the place. Art style is ok, stories are fun. If you ever wondered what war dogs were, here is a show about that. yeah, me neither, but Marvel animation! once that never used to happen now three in one year!

Extras

Still managed to get some more series in, here are the additionals:

The Legend of Korra - Season 4

When our powers combine, we are captain planet!

Finally finished Legend of Korra, i know, years later. Thoght it was good, kids liked it. Hard to measure up against Avatar, but thought it got better towards the end, some of the best episodes were the last ones. Plus, this season had Toph, and Toph is always a win (I don't make the rules, sorry)

Monster - Season 3

Well he looks like he is having a lovely time

hmmm, while i watched the first season, and thought it was Ok (dont really want to say i enjoyed it!) this one felt all over the place. was obviously trying to show influence on Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Silence of the Lambs, Struggled with the OG story. Adding in extra character and dicking around with the events didnt help. might get round to season 2, but have heard it is worse

Peacemaker - Season 2

Shut up, crime! no wait.....

The continuing saga of John Cena being surprisingly good TV. Very funny, gory as hell, round the twist in so many ways. Generally a fun time to be had here. Intro music still good, if different

Gen V

ruddy red blue purple gets everywhere!

It's the Boys! but at university. Still gory as all sin, funny as, and yeah, Boys material has not run out of road. yet......

What if...? but not as you know it

Spin off from What if, so the same art still which i'm still not sold on. Spoilers: ends up with a beam of light into the sky, thought that we were done with those around 2012? Fun enough, just dont get attached to anyone

Alien: Earth

nom nom nom

Starts very strong, then slightly sharts the bed at the final hurdle. Looks the business and the story is for the most part interesting. Characters are good, solid performances on screen. New aliens are awesome and nightmare fuel. But the end doesn't sit well. A good, not great entry in the Alien series, which is saying something as there have been some stinkers of late

Civilizations - Rise and Fall

Well, one of you farted...

Another entry in the ooh, that looks interesting category. Historical look at Civilizations ending ubruptly. well acted and informative. Was struggling to keep attention by the later episodes but that might have been me binging them, so may be on me

The American Revolution

and still going on.....

Always a sucker for Ken Burns. when orignally looking for a retelling of the American revolution, i saw that he had one coming out at the end of the year, so was waiting to feast on that with my eye holes. Well not the best documentary he has every made (that would be the civil war), its not as much of a drudge as the West, so yeah, pretty solid. As a snotty brit, interesting to see that both sides were utter barstards, as is often the way

The Mighty Nein

Power rangers reboot incoming!

Yet another of the critical role series, and i was a fan of the first entry, The legend of Vox Machina. Will have to see what this develops into, as it ended on a blue balls cliff hanger, but has the usual characters all bouncing off each other in chaotic fun times.
