25 in 2025 - Books

Last year (2024), I set myself a challenge to watch/play/listen/read 24 Films, Tv Shows, Games, Albums and Books.

These were all new rather than rewatches/replays as much as possible, slightly cheating by having comics and books in the same category.

For this year i have tried to up the stakes to 25. will show my progress below:

So the Books wot i have seen in 25. i have struggled of recent reading this many books, as i tend to not have that much time to read, sadly. So in no particular order, here are the books/Comics i read for the first time in 2025:

The Terror - Dan Simmons

In the Navy....

Starting the year with a book that got turned into a TV show. It was a good show, it was a good book. different in some ways but yeah, had a good enough time.

Snowpiecer

Probably the most french thing i read this year

The comic that turned into a film, which then got turned into a TV show. only a few episodes left of the show at present, this was an interesting few hours, seeing what they decided to bring to the screen. Liked the concept and the artwork is good

Star Wars: The Mask of Fear (Reign of the Empire) - Alexander Freed

Reading time for Star Wars

So having read nearly every Star Wars book going, where would this fit in that ocean of Mid? Well, i think towards the surface. I didnt glaze this book as much as others, Some of it was interesting, some of was pretty tedious. All in all, it was Fine. There is will much worse Star Wars books on the way!

The Fort - Bernard Cornwell

alas, he used to be able to button his coat up

A standalone novel from the Sharpe author, this was a bit hit and miss. coming and going with a lot of infighting between the americans and the Brits. Didn't have the momentum of a Sharpe or an Utred Novel, but was fun enough.

Jam - Yahtzee Croshaw

The Aussiest book i read this year

Book by the Zero Punction guy. Got a lot of his ramblings through the characters, the concept started to run a bit thin towards the end.

new queen reboot looks iffy

I read the annihilation marvel arc, which this was the starting section. Absolutely no idea what was going on, looked very nice

catcher in the rye - J.D Salinger

the bane of many english classes im sure

In a vain attempt to read 'the classics' i read this 'book.' nearly ended up giving myself a migriane, and I read Philip k.Dick books for fun! All the characters are utter knobheads, incoherent and yeah, not especially interesting. The search for the great american novel continues!

Star Wars: Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith - Charles Soule

now that is a power stance

darth Vader from Star Wars. doing Darth vadering things. all the ususal stuff.

Starcraft Ghost Nova

in the running for stupidest title of the year

Starcrafting, across the universe. prequel about Nova. doing spy stuff, blowing things up and killing fools. yeah, it was a thing

Star Wars: Trials of the Jedi (The High Republic)Book - Charles Soule

another contender for stupidest title

Rejoice! the high republic is over! bet you didn't even know it was a thing?!? 1000 years before thr prequels, it finally dribbled over the line. was not a great ending, but at least this multimedia project that had 1 tv series and no games is finally over. Jeez, i hated these Star wars books, it surely cant get any worse can it?

drax the destroyer - keith giffen

so hardcore to be on the cover twice

Drax goes on holiday to Earth. He wastes some fools. a nice breather in the arc where everything explodes

Annihilation - keith Giffen

the one where everything explodes

The rest of the arc. Still not a clue what is going on, looks very lovely

Star Wars: Sanctuary (A Bad Batch Novel)Novel - Lamar Giles

Why are all star wars novels given such shit names?

Its Star wars time again! Now the bad batch are bad batching all over the place. your milage my vary over how much you like the bad batch. I was not so fussed, but this might be the best or joint best Star wars book this year? certainly not the worst (that is coming!)

Dead Boy Detectives

missing - cockney slang

A 'classic' comicbook run, ghosts doing investigating. in London, with lots of Cockney accents. Did feel a bit dated, but a strong story kinda held it together

Star Wars: The Acolyte: Wayseeker - Justina Ireland

can almost smell the wiff from here

urgh, yay, its star wars time again. This probably takes the cake as the worst book this year (thank you tapcaf transmissions for choosing this in the book club!) Story is boring, characters 1 dimensional, its all very tired. Just felt a bit shit

Aliens vs Avengers

yeah, they are boned

Another playground argument settled, who would win, the avengers or aliens? Well, they are all really really old at this pointfor starters. then aliens have full fuck stomped the earth, and mars is not much better. It was a cool idea, very bleak, best way that Aliens should be

Dead space

tis the season to grr arg dribble dribble

Comic adaptation of the events leading to the first Dead space. goes hard, doesnt let up.

Sharpe's Storm - Bernard Cornwell

just make sure you dont get any purple there

through wizardry, a new sharpe novel managed to get shoe horned into the timeline. Sharpe is still buggering about in spain and france, killing french and swearing at officers. It is a bit paint by numbers at this point, but it is a fun jaunt none the less

Rogue Planet - Greg Bear

didnt you always want a story when they are this age?

urgh, its star wars time again, oh yay. anakin is being a dick, and Obi One takes him on a boot camp to straighten him out. just kiddling, they go to a planet where they grow space ships. and Tarkin turns up and invades. Then it ends. Glad to find out the last 200 pages were a taster for another book. This one sucked

Dead space salvage

Space looks so fun though

More adventures in the dead sapce universe. Peeps getting murdered in horrible ways, getting turned into zombies with machettes for arms, whats not to love?

Dead Space Extraction

tis the season and all

The continuing tales of space scientology getting fucked up. This time, it is a comic on the game on the wii that no-one played. Still a fun little jaunt into Dead Space, no worse than the 3rd game

Uncanny X-force

Deadpool's dong emitting a threatening aura here

Yet another Arc I thought I would give a try. This seems to be the Wolverine that the films are always trying to put on the screen but are not allowed for some reason. Nice to see other characters given a try as well.

The running man - Stephen King

Looks like a man from Uncle spin off

Loved the OG movie, tolerated the remake, loved reading this. Short and sweet, brutally violent. Good stuff. explosive ending

Supergirl woman of tomorrow

shes got a sword and a dog!

best comic of the year? Possibly. the one that the film will apparently be based on. Had a blast. looks lovely, good story. fun times were had

Project hail mary - Andy Weir

insert David Bowie song here

Ending the year on a banger, couldn't put this down. Loved the shit out of the concept, engaging, funny and great. go read it before the film!
